Dear Blanchard Middle School Families,
The 2017-2018 school year is right around the corner! I hope your summer vacation has been spent relaxing and renewing energy for another great year at Blanchard. Teachers are preparing their classrooms, secretaries are organizing the office, and our custodians are putting finishing touches on projects around the building. We are all eager to reconnect and greet new faces soon. As a reminder, sixth grader students start with a full day on Tuesday, August 29. Their orientation schedule was included in the following welcome letter sent out this week: Welcome to Sixth Grade!
Seventh and eighth grade students begin on Wednesday, August 30.
On the school website, we have posted some documents that will facilitate beginning of the year procedures. Lists of suggested supplies that will help keep your middleschooler organized are also posted on the homepage. They are not necessary for the first day. The school handbook, district calendar, and bus information can also be found on the school and district websites. Please take a moment to familiarize yourselves with the Blanchard Parking Lot Guidelines. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to give me a call.
Fall Athletics Information
The sports season will kick of with an informational meeting for all students interested in our sports programs on Thursday, August 31 in the cafeteria during Advisory block. All students interested in any sport should attend. For fall, we have tryouts for any seventh or eighth grade boy or girl interested in our soccer teams or girls field hockey. All grades are invited to join our cross country team with no tryouts required. Cross country is the only sport available for incoming sixth graders during the fall. Coaches will be on hand during the meeting to answer any sport specific questions. Tryouts for soccer and field hockey and practice for cross country will begin on Tuesday, September 5. The fall sports program runs Monday-Thursday from 2:30-4:00. Our cross country team is bussed to Stony Brook for all practices and home
meets. Parent pickup is required promptly by 4:00 at the Stony Brook track. Please visit our Blanchard sports page for student requirements PRIOR to the start of the season on September 5. All students MUST BE registered and must have an up to date physical within the last 13 months on file with our nurse and parent/child. All athletes are required to watch a concussion video. Links to all these requirements are found on our Blanchard sports page which is found under the student tab.
We're ready for your children's arrival and committed to working with you to provide them with an exceptional middle school experience!
