News 9/9/17
Hi Everyone,

Mark your calendars for Blanchard's Open House coming up next week! Seventh and Eighth Grade Parent Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13, and Sixth Grade Parent Open House is on Thursday, September 14. Both evenings begin at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude by 7:30 p.m. These events will provide a glimpse into the classrooms, curriculum, and daily life at Blanchard. You will also be able meet and greet with many of your child's teachers.

The format of our Sixth Grade Open House will be a bit different this year. Parents will begin the evening in the auditorium, where the full team of sixth grade teachers will join administration and Guidance to provide an overview of the curriculum in each subject area. Following this presentation, parents will head down to their child's homeroom to learn more about sixth grade routines before a self-guided tour through the classrooms in the sixth grade hall. The final half-hour of the evening will be an opportunity for parents to visit the integrated arts, specialist, and student support classrooms to meet teachers and learn about each of these courses. At Seventh and Eighth Grade Open House, parents will attend curriculum presentations in team classrooms as well as in world language, reading, and student support classrooms. Detailed schedules for both evenings will be sent home with your child early next week. Please note, Open House is inteded to be for adults only. We look forward to seeing you next week!

Early Morning Ensemble Rehearsals
Before school rehearsals for band, orchestra, and chorus begin next week. On Monday (Day 1), sixth grade groups rehearse. On Friday (Day 5), seventh and eighth grade groups rehearse. Band and orchestra students should be dropped off at the front of the building. Chorus students should be dropped off at the side entrance to the building near the cafeteria. For the safety of our students and staff entering the building, students should not be dropped off in the parking lot.

After School Activities
We are in the process of finalizing our activities offerings and schedules for the 2017-2018 school year. Most of our clubs and activities will begin at the end of the month. Our daily morning announcements will include activities updates, and an extracurricular activities calendar will also be available on our homepage soon.

Late Bus transportation begins on Tuesday, September 12. The late bus picks up Blanchard students at 3:00 and travels to Westford Academy, where students may need to board the second late bus depending on the student's home address. If you have questions about late bus, please contact Dee Bus at (978) 392-8639.

On a related note, after our school day ends at 2:00, students may remain in the building only if they are participating in a school-sponsored activity that is supervised by a staff member. This includes sports, extracurricular activities, and extra help sessions arranged with a teacher. Beginning soon, the learning commons will be open a few days a week until 3:00 for reading and homework. Keep an eye on the announcements for more information.

Eighth Grade Washington, D.C. Trip Parent Information Night
Eighth grade students will be traveling to Washington, D.C. again this spring. Mr. Parker, Social Studies Teacher and D.C. Trip Coordinator, will be holding an informational meeting for parents on September 27. Please plan to attend if your eighth grade student may be attending the trip. The meeting will take place from 7:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m. at Blanchard in the Katie Enos Performing Arts Center.
