STRING INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC JULIE OTTESEN, DIRECTOR
Welcome to the String Instrumental Music Program at Blanchard Middle School! Many of you have had a few years of lessons to establish the fundamentals of playing a string instrument. This gives us the opportunity to work on developing ensemble skills by studying some of the rich orchestral literature. We will also learn new techniques to refine tone, intonation, and articulation.
The program at the middle school consists of a weekly small group lesson and a weekly orchestra rehearsal. The weekly orchestra rehearsal will enable us to practice together as an ensemble so that we may perform for the community. There are two orchestras at Blanchard, one for grade six string students, and the other orchestra for string students in grades seven and eight. Learning how to play in a large ensemble takes a lot of practice. In time and with regular practice, you will gain a better understanding of playing in a large ensemble while continuing to master new concepts on your string instrument.
Parents/guardians are a very important factor in a child’s education and need to be actively involved with their child’s practice. This being said, it is still the student’s responsibility to practice daily and set goals. Most of the enjoyment of playing aninstrument comes after many hours of effort and sometimes frustration while learning new music. I am here to support you in any way that I can.
