H1N1 has arrived in Massachusetts and we are expecting to see more students presenting with a flu like illness. We are required to track students with symptoms of H1N1 flu like illness and we need your cooperation in order to keep as many people as possible healthy.
You can help by leaving a detailed message on the absentee line. Please state your child's symptoms and please let us know his or her temperature. It is very important to have a reliable thermometer to check your child's temperature. Any child with a fever over 100 needs to stay home from school and they must remain fever free without using anti-fever medications for 24 hours before returning to school. We will be sending out a connect ed message from the nurse to parents who do not call their child in on the absentee line.
Although 100 is our criteria for keeping children home with a flu like illness, we are seeing that the illness begins before the temperature develops. If your child is complaining of headache, chills, fatigue, aches, it is a very good idea to keep them home and monitor their temperature (with no tylenol on board) to see if they do spike a fever over 100.
Thank you to all the parents for donating the kleenex, hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes. It is very much appreciated. We are in constant need of these supplies, and sometimes go through a box a day in some classes. If your child has a cold and is using a lot of kleenex, please consider sending a box with them to use.
