SOCIAL STUDIES:

Update as of March 2, 2010:

The MFA Field Trip has been postponed to June 1st. New permission slips will be coming home in May.  This is the soonest that the MFA would let us come.

SCIENCE:

We began the year by investigating answers to the question, “What really is Science?”  We then reviewed the Scientific Method by conducting an experiment hatching brine shrimp in water with different concentrations of salt.  We will now be moving on to Earth Science.  Through research and a series of investigations students will build on their knowledge of the earth's composition and the forces that cause changes over geologic time.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

The Language Arts classes of 7 Blue will continue reading and analyzing various non-fiction selections during the upcoming weeks.  In preparation for the ELA MCAS test, which will be given towards the end of March, the seventh grade has planned a Mock MCAS day where the students will practice taking the Long Composition test in class, as well as review the grading rubric afterwards.  We will also continue to polish our writing skills and practice our reading strategies while examining various poems from our Literature Book during our upcoming Poetry unit.
I would also like to formally introduce our student teacher Mrs. Jennifer Vozzella.  She is here from UMass Lowell completing her student teaching requirements for her Education degree.  She will be with us until the end of April.  The students have done a wonderful job making her feel welcome.

MATHEMATICS:

The students are expanding their knowledge of integers to include negative numbers and apply this knowledge to problems including temperature, elevation, and the stock market. Students will learn to solve equations involving positive and negative integers and plot integers on the coordinate axes. Student will then use this knowledge to study, display, and interpret data.
