6th
Grade 6 FLEX:
Overview:
Sixth grade students will explore for nine weeks each of these four languages:  Spanish, French, German and Latin.  Students will be exposed to common elements, such as greetings and salutations in each language.  They will also be exposed to a focus topic in the target language.  The focus topic will allow the introduction of culture as well as additional vocabulary.

French:  The focus topics are Food (since France is so famous for it's cuisine) and Clothing (since France is known for it's fashion).

German: The focus topic is Family & Home.

Spanish: Students will be exploring how people communicate in Spanish as they learn how to make introductions, express how one is feeling, and be able to do simple additions and subtractions using the target language.

7th
Grade 7 French
How does where we live influence how we live?  7th Grade students have been exploring this essential question.  Before the holiday break, they created Glogs (similar to a Blog) about the the geography, terrain, and climate about regions of France.  They, then, found some pictures of their region using Google Earth.  Finally, they wrote a hypothesis about how they think people in the region live, based on the information we found.  After vacation, students began researched how people actually and are now using this information to create a second Glog.  The second Glog will include a written conclusion based on both Glogs.  Finally, students will "tour" all of the regions.  Additionally, we have been learning French vocabulary to talk about leisure activities.

Grade 7 German
Students are learning about family life in German-speaking countries. They are also sharing the wonderful podcasts they prepared after the Winter Break on States in Germany.

Grade 7 Latin

Grade 7 Spanish  ¡!Buenos Días!!
As students explore more about how people communicate in Spanish, they will be reviewing the Spanish ABC's and the vocabulary they learned last year (for greetings; making introductions; expressing their age, where they are from; the weather; and the sports and leisure activities that they like to participate in) and learn how and be able to describe professions of various people as they learn how to conjugate the verb "Ser." In addition to this they will be starting a new epal project communicating with native speakers in Spanish speaking countries. They will have the opportunity to practice reading and writing in Spanish as well as help the native speakers practice the same for English. As their vocabulary grammar increase, they will be able to learn how their culture is similiar and diffferent to others.

8th

Grade 8 French
Prior to the holiday break, students completed Unité 5 of their book.  This unit focused on buildings, places, transportation, giving/getting directions, and possession.  Upon returning from vacation, we began a review project in the Foreign Language Lab.  Students are creating a cartoon using the website, www.goanimate.com.  In their cartoons, students are demonstrating usage of the various structures and vocabulary that they learned in Unité 5.  Upon completion of the project, students will complete a short review of the Unit and then take a Unit test.  Soon, we will be moving onto Past Tense!!

Grade 8 German
In January, students are learning how to purchase food in specialty shops in German-speaking countries using, of course, metric measurements.  We will see how metric is used throughout the recipes as well.

Grade 8 Latin

Grade 8 Spanish ¡Buenos Días!

As students continue to explore more about how people communicate in Spanish, they will be reviewing the vocabulary and grammar points taught last year (for describing classes, schedules, obligations, asking and telling time, the interrogatives and formation of questions) and be able to express where they are going and what they are going to do as they discuss their plans. In addition to this, they will be taking an adventure into Spanish speaking countries as they establish a relationship with their Spanish native speakers via epal. As they continue to learn more vocabulary and grammar, they will be able to articulate their thoughts and questions more clearlly to learn about the similarities and differences between their culture and those of a native speaker.
